Houston Texans Notes, Quotes 2009-03-20
--DT Amobi Okoye is embarking on a nine-day trip to his native country of Nigeria again. He is set to help provide college scholarships and free medical clinics to those living there, as well as continue to help educate the children of Nigeria on the game of football.

Okoye orchestrated the first trip back home after his rookie season, and plans to make it an annual trip. Fellow NFL players including Nnamdi Asomugha, Osi Umenyiora and Tommie Harris are joining him.

Aside from planning the trip, Okoye has also been working out at Reliant Stadium.

"Coming from your rookie to your sophomore year, you don't want to do anything. You don't want to do anything until you're forced to do something," Okoye said. "But this year, I've realized to be that Pro Bowler, you have to start early. It was actually a habit of mine to start early in college. But that rookie year, you really don't want to do anything.

"So that's a different approach this year. I've been working out at least three or four times a week - ever since I got back from the Pro Bowl with Mario (Williams). Because that stuff motivates you. It motivates you in your production to see those people out there. Knowing that you should be out there."

--Defensive coordinator Frank Bush said he expects to see an even more motivated Mario Williams this season. The fourth-year defensive end is coming off his first Pro Bowl season and will be playing in newly revamped system.

Bush expects Williams to lead by example again this year.

"More than anything, Mario isn't a guy who talks a lot," Bush said. "He says what he has to say. He talks more to his teammates than anybody else. But I think more than anything his work ethic speaks volumes. And I think he likes it that way. If we can just get him to continually do those types of things - get out on the field and produce, I think he leads by that way. He'll be more vocal, that's just the nature of the animal as you grow older. But his work ethic and production will speak volumes."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Once we get started, it's critical that those kids become solid football players. But also, it's critical that we help those kids in some of the things we do, kind of how we position them to do the things we need them to do. It works hand in hand. We're really dependent on those kids to step up and develop and be impact players for us." -- Defensive coordinator Frank Bush when asked about the importance of the continued improvement needed by young OLBs Xavier Adibi and Zac Diles.
