--Linebacker DeMeco Ryans had to leave the game for a few plays when he rolled his ankle. He had it re-taped and returned to the game about two minutes later.
Ryans, who was still limping considerably after the game, has yet to miss a start. He has played through a number of serious injuries in his previous two seasons.
When Ryans left the game, Kevin Bentley replaced him at middle linebacker and wore a special helmet fitted with the extra defensive transmitter, so he could hear the plays relayed in and get the defense lined up.
--For the first time in three games, the Texans' defense was unable to force a turnover.
"I think for the most part we defended the pass well," Ryans said. "I wish we could have made a few big plays in the passing game, gotten a couple of turnovers, some kind of way."
--It was a game decided by the kickers - both of whom took advantage of each opportunity they received. A 47-yard field goal by Kris Brown forced the game into overtime. Then Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee won the game with a 37-yard kick. He kicked a game winner the previous week against Indianapolis as well.
"I think if you're in this position in this league, you have respect for the other guys because you know how hard it is," Brown said. "A lot of people don't think it's hard, but it is. He did a great job, and came in to do what he had to do to win the game."
Brown finished the game with two field goals (27, 47). Scobee finished with three field goals (46, 40, 37).
--Rookie running Steve Slaton wasn't able to break away for another big run in his second start, but he had a solid outing with 10 carries for 33 yards. He also finished as the team's leading receiver with eight catches for 83 yards including one touchdown.
"He's showing he's not a rookie," wide receiver Kevin Walter said. "He's a professional. He's mentally there. He's physically there. He's the whole package."
